Welcome To Winter

Welcome To Winter introduces outdoor winter fun to everyone, regardless of income, background or experience.

In our work with schools, WinterKids learned that many recently resettled families from Sudan, Somalia, Rwanda, and other warm climates had never experienced a snowy winter. Some parents were afraid to let their children play outside. WinterKids designed an outreach program to help Maine's refugee and immigrant populations learn how to safely and comfortably enjoy winter.

Welcome To Winter is a multifaceted outreach program that incorporates Active Academics Workshops at schools, first-language parent education at community centers, teacher training using the WinterKids Guide to Outdoor Active Learning (GOAL), WinterKids Passport scholarships, and the Welcome To Winter Festival!

Welcome To Winter promotes positive perceptions about winter and shows kids and their families how much fun winter can be!
